Art for Democracy and Peace – European Union Public Domain
Art for Democracy and Peace – European Union Public Domain is designed as a unique three-year specialist teaching programme for both 1st and 2nd of the cycle studies of the Faculty of Media Arts at the Academy of Fine Arts in Warsaw, Poland. It will be focused on the artistic, as well as theoretical and philosophical issues related to the state of democracy and peacebuilding in the EU.
The uniqueness of the programme will consist in the inclusion of teaching both digital media art and the theory of democracy. In this way, the programme will be consistent with the EU priorities of shaping Europe’s digital future for the young generations by and teaching the use of digital technologies to protect human rights, support democracy and solidarity.
The ArtDemocracyandPeace programme will encompass both the practical artistic part based on students’ creation of art projects aimed at promoting democracy and world peace, and the theoretical part focused on the philosophical and sociological context of EU policies.
Students will learn how to use the creative potential of art to transform and amend social life, seek to resolve conflicts and injustice in a non-violent manner through the use of art in order to search for more democratic solutions with the aim of European Union integration, and the pursuit of peace.
This programme is designed to teach and promote the creation of art that will socially implement the international EU’s policies based on human rights protection, equal opportunities, freedom of speech, solidarity, and diversity in reference to The Charter of Fundamental Rights of the EU. It will include organizing public events, exhibitions, and publications.
